Overview

Ghandruk Ghorepani Poonhill trek offers mesmerizing sunrise and sunset view from Poon Hill 3210 meter which is one hour climb from Ghorepani. Ghandruk being a popular tourist hub in Annapurna region, has easy trails and various accommodation possibilities. The magnificent mountain views along with the views of charming villages inhabited particularly by the Gurungs, Poon and Magars are some of the highlights of the Ghandruk Ghorepani Poonhill trek. The trail also not only offers the exhilarating views of dense rhododendron forests full of birds and deep sub-tropical valleys but also leads us through the scenic views of picturesque peak of Machhapuchhare meeting the horizon.

Poonhill climbing is an important highlight of this. The magnificent Sun rise view on the snow-capped summits of Mt. Dhaulagiri (8,167m) and Annapurna (8,091m) along with a maze of other peaks, a magical spell binds us. Beautiful and ornate village of Ghandruk, home of Annapurna Conservation Area Project (ACAP), Gurung Museum, culture and custom, Monastery are interesting places to visit. We can discover the coservation work being carried out in Ghandruk village every day after 3 pm onwards by visiting the ACAP project. This trek starts from beautiful tourist capital Pokhara after one day drive or 25 minutes’ flight from Kathmandu. Naya Pul means new bridge is the originally starting or ending point of Ghandruk Ghorepani trekking. The famous area of Ghorepani trek is Gurung tropical village known as Ghandruk that takes one day trekking from Pokhara. The mesmerizing sunrise view from the Poonhill comes after our three days trek and in two days’ walk we come to Nayapul and then a drive to Pokhara and then to Kathmandu ends the trek.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrive in Kathmandu

Upon arrival in the Kathmandu Airport (TIA), you will be welcomed and greeted by our representative and then transfer to the hotel. After check in, you can either take rest; hang around in the city as it all depends upon your interests. In the evening, we will organize a Welcome Dinner at an excellent traditional Nepalese restaurant where you will enjoy a Nepalese cultural program as well as a fine meal.

Day 2Kathmandu Sightseeing & final preparation for trekking

Today, after breakfast, you will be taken for city sightseeing with one of our guides. Kathmandu being a colorful city offers you a fascinating blend of rational architecture and symbols of the twentieth century. It’s artistic and cultural heritages is evident where ornately carried balconies mingle with beautiful shrines and temples. You will be taken to a few of the UNESCO World Heritage sites such as Kathmandu Durbar square, Pashupatinath temple and Swoymbhunath temple (the Monkey temple) where you will not only view the magnificent woodcarvings but also Hindu and Buddhist culture. If time permits you will be taken to the home palace of living God Kumari. You will also have an opportunity to explore the network of street Markets and alley Bazaars and witness the burning Ghats (Cremation) at Pashupatinath.

Day 3Drive to Pokhara by tourist bus

Today, after breakfast, you will be driven to Pokhara, 200 km. from Kathmandu by a tourist coach. The drive takes 6 hours and during the tour you will see beautiful landscapes, terraced fields, Trishuli and Mashyangdi river where you can capture different views in your cameras. In the late afternoon or in the evening you will go boating in Phewa Lake and visit Tal Barahi temple lying in the middle of the lake. Later, if time permits you will hang around the tourist market. Overnight in a hotel in Lakeside.

Drive Duration: 6 hrs

Day 4Drive to Nayapul and trek to Ghandruk

After breakfast, we will drive you to Nayapul today on a private car. After an hour and half, we reach Nayapul and start our trek along Modikhola, cross the river in Birethati. Further we trek following the Modi Khola valley past Seuli Bazaar. It takes around 2 hours and we will start climbing the stone steps. We continue walking until we reach Ghandruk, the beautiful Gurung village. The trek takes around 5 to 6 hours walk from Nayapul. During the trek, you will see the spectacular Mountain View, green and terraced landscapes, beautiful rivers and most importantly you will observe the Gurung culture. In the evening you will participate in Mother group-dance programs. You can enjoy dancing or singing with them. Overnight in a local teahouse.

Day 5Trek to Tadapani

After breakfast we will visit Gurung Museum and monastery with panoramic mountain views. We will start late 11 AM to Tadapani. Passing through the Rhododendron forest, we continue walking until we reach Bhaisi Kharka and have our lunch there. After lunch, we will enjoy the trek inside the deep forest for about 1.30 hours. We will enjoy the birds chirping and if we are lucky we will see different kinds of birds and wild animals there. Finally, we arrive in Tadapani after climbing up the hill. Tadapani is famous for sunrise and sunset view of Mt. Machhapuchhre. Overnight at a local teahouse at Tadapani.

Day 6Trek to Ghorepani

Today, we will start our trek after breakfast. Walking for an hour and half, down to the gorge and climb 1 hours up, we reach Banthati and continue the trek following the gorge until we arrive Deurali where we have lunch at around noon. After lunch, we trek for few more minutes climb up and then down to Ghorepani, lying loftily in the lush oak, rhododendron forest. Overnight at a local teahouse at Ghorepani.

Day 7Poon Hill and trek to Tikhedunga

Today, we will wake up early around 4.30 AM and trek for an hour uphill and go to Poon Hill (3210m) for observing the mesmerizing sunrise view. Poon Hill offers the best breathtaking and panoramic view point in Nepal. We can see the Dhauligiri range to Manaslu range including the famous Mountain peak Machhapurche. After the sunrise view, we will return to the Hotel for Breakfast then proceed down to Nangethati, Banthati and Ulleri. This trek offers the opportunity to view the beautiful mountain scenes and the panoramic view of the villages. We will have lunch in Ulleri and continue walking down to Tikhedhunga, the bank side of Bhurungdi Khola. Overnight in Tikhedhunga.

Day 8Trek to Nayapul and drive to Pokhara

After breakfast we will begin our trek to Nayapul passing through Hills like Sudame, Ramghari and Birethati where we started our trek on the very first day and finally walk to Nayapul in around 3.5 hours. We have lunch in Nayapul and drive to Pokhara for an hour and half in a private car which will be waiting for us. After we reach Pokhara, we will refresh ourselves in our hotel and then visit Davis Fall and Gupteshwor Mahadev Cave, return to the lakeside and go boating for about an hour. Overnight in a hotel in Pokhara.

Day 9Drive to Kathmandu by a tourist coach

After breakfast, we will drive you back to Kathmandu by a tourist coach. After six hours we will arrive in our hotel in Kathmandu. You will have some free time for the last minute shopping or else you can relax in your hotel. Farewell Dinner. Overnight in a hotel in Kathmandu.

Day 10Departure Day

After breakfast, you will be transferred to Tribhuvan international airport 3 hours prior to your scheduled flight for your next destination

Throughout your tour, we are committed to ensuring your stay is both comfortable and enjoyable. In Kathmandu, you will be accommodated at Hotel Encounter Nepal or a similar category hotel. As your tour commences, your accommodation will be in standard hotels and lodges, each offering twin-sharing rooms with attached bathrooms and convenient hot shower amenities. If you desire a single-supplement room, it is available for an additional charge of USD 350. Booking a room in advance affords you better options to select the room or hotel that best suits your preferences. All hotels in this tour region have ensuite bathrooms and toilet facilities.

Meals

Your meal plan in Kathmandu includes breakfast, providing the perfect start to each day. During the trek, you will be served a  three-course meal. At the teahouses where we spend an overnight during the trek, you will be served a balanced and nourishing breakfast and dinner. For Lunch, we will stop at one of the hotels along the way to our next destination. Black Diamond has also arranged a special Welcome and Farewell dinner for our guests. This will be accompanied by a captivating cultural performance with local food providing you with a memorable and delightful experience.

Best time to trek Ghandruk Ghorepani Poonhill

The best time to trek to Ghandruk- Ghorepani- Poonhill is Autumn (September to November) and Spring (March to May).  These seasons offer the most favorable weather and trekking conditions with moderate temperatures, clear skies, and mesmerizing natural scenery.  During October, you will also have a chance to experience the major festivals of Nepalese people, Dashain and Tihar. During both seasons, the trails are easily navigable, and the teahouses along the route are fully operational.
