Overview

Chandragiri Chitlang Kulekhani hike is one of the best hiking routes around Kathmandu valley. Chandragiri hill gives trekkers an opportunity to explore the magnificent flora and fauna along with spectacular beauty of the snow capped mountains such as Annapurna and Everest. Chandragiri Chitlang Kulekhani hiking also offers breath taking views of the Kathmandu Valley. Chandragiri hill (2410 m) is located in the South West direction of the Kathmandu valley. The hill not only provides the panoramic views of the Kathmandu Valley, where there are 7 UNESCO World Heritage Sites, and the lush green vegetation downwards on the other side but also offers magnificent sight of the Himalayan ranges from Annapurna to Everest. Having seen the beautiful panoramic view from the hilltop, one really feels as if they were seeing whole Nepal from this hill. Chandragiri hill has now become a popular tourist destination after the functioning of cable cars.

Chitlang, on the other hand, is an ancient Newari settlement located in Makwanpur district. Different artistic monuments, pagoda-styled roofs and unique craftsmanship around the place offer a fascinating charm. The temples with amazing wood and stone carving, artistic rest houses, stone taps, available inscription of centuries long reveal that the settlement was once a civilized settlement in ancient time. Chitlang also has a facility of village home stay where you can get insight of the rural life in Nepal. The hills of Chitlang is considered one of the best hiking/trekking destinations around Kathmandu. Camping and cycling here provides you an opportunity of getting closer to the un-disrupted ecology in the locality. Just trekking for about 40 minutes comes the man-made lake of Kulekhani called Indrasarobar. Boating in Indrasarobar gives an added advantage of this hike.

Itinerary

Day 1Arrival in Kathmandu

Upon arrival at the Tribhuvan International Airport, you will be met by one of our representatives and makes an arrangement to transfer you to a hotel by private tourist vehicle. Overnight at hotel Encounter Nepal.

Day 2Sightseeing in Kathmandu

Today after breakfast we will start a guided tour to several of the most historical and spiritual attractions in Kathmandu. Some of these landmarks are considered World Heritage Sites; including the historic Durbar Square, the sacred Hindu temple of Pashupati Nath, the famous ‘Monkey Temple’ (Swayambunath) and Buddhists shrine (Bauddha Nath) which is one of the large Stupas in the world. Day 3Drive to Chandragiri Cable Car Station and Trek to Chitlang

Today, after breakfast, we start our journey in a private car with a drive to Chandragiri Cable Car Station. We take the ticket and head towards Chandragiri hill by a cable car. From the cable car, we can view the lush sub-tropical forest with verities of flora and fauna along with the settlement of the Kathmandu valley in this 10-minute tour. Finally, we reach Chandragiri Hill where we will see the eye catching temple of Bhaleshwor Mahadev and the beautiful park site with an artificial spring. On a clear day you can observe spectacular mountains such as Mt. Gaurishanker, Dorje Lakpa, Langtang mountain range, Manaslu, Ganesh Himal, Kanchenjunga, Makalu, Mt. Everest, Api Himal and so on. We can also see different flora and fauna, lush green vegetation and the whole of the Kathmandu valley. After lunch, we trek downhill towards Chitlang. It takes about 2 hours to reach there. Our real trek starts from here. Chitlang is an ancient village which offers ancient temples, artistically made rest houses and traditional stone taps. You can indeed receive an exhilarating fun during the trek to Chitlang by visiting the historical sites such as Pauwa, Saat Dhara (seven water taps), Shiwalaya, and some other archeological monuments. There are some lodges to stay but if you opt for a home stay it gives you an opportunity to interact and get insight of the Nepalese rural life. Overnight in Chitlang at a teahouse or a homestay.

Day 4Chitlang to Kulekhani via Markhu Village; Drive back to Kathmandu

Today, after breakfast we continue our hike to Indrasarobar at Kulekhani via Markhu village. The trail takes us through lush green vegetation and pagoda styled houses of the village. We can see the rural villagers work in the fields. This gives us an opportunity to explore how rural people survive in Nepal. After about one and half hour’s hike we reach Kulekhani. Khulekhani has the biggest artificial Lake (dam) in Nepal constructed to generate hydro-electricity. The lake is called Indrasarobar. We can enjoy boating in the lake. Then after lunch, we drive back to Kathmandu. En route, we visit Dakshinkali Temple and a Buddhist monastery in Pharping, which is just 18 kilometers from Kathmandu city centre. Overnight in Hotel Encounter Nepal Kathmandu.

Day 5Departure Day

Our scheduled hike to Kathmandu Chitlang Kulekhani comes to an end today! One of the representatives from Black Diamond Expedition will escort you to Tribhuvan international airport approximately 3 hours prior to your scheduled flight for the next destination.

Booking a room in advance affords you better options to select the room or hotel that best suits your preferences. All hotels in this region have ensuite bathrooms and toilet facilities.

Your meal plan in Kathmandu includes breakfast, providing the perfect start to each day.  During the hike, you will be served a  three-course meal. At the Hotels where we spend an overnight during the tour, you will be served balanced and nourishing breakfasts and dinners. Best time to do Chandragiri Chitlang Kulekhani Hike

The best seasons for the hike to Chandragiri, Chitlang, and Kulekhani are March to May and September to December. During these seasons, you’ll encounter favorable weather conditions with moderate temperatures, clear skies, and captivating natural vistas. However, visits during other seasons also have their advantages, such as fewer crowds and often lower prices compared to peak seasons.
